You’ve Been Served (Part 2)

Innocent? No one is truly innocent.

What we have is a society that forces offenders beneath the surface. It is now time to dig them out by the roots and destroy the weeds so that a better society can grow over the top.

No one in this city will take my law into their own hands. No one will grant themselves the power over life and death. It is for the LAW MAKERS of this city to stem the flow of corruption and hold those who break the rules accountable, no one else.

We will shut down corporations and lay waste to lawless areas for that is what it means to be a LAW MAKER.

As the hammer of justice crashes down its thunder will resonate across the entire reach of the Shady City. Many will fear the vibrations but if fear is what it takes then fear it shall be. Where fear fails there is force. They will be pushed back into the holes in which they dwell and fire will be set to the cesspits of villainy.

The mayor of the city is still missing. The hot seat is still open but make no mistake, my law is still my law and no one is above it.

A little TROUBLE in the Shanties is bringing down the wrath of the LAW MAKERS.

Trouble is Brewing

The morning had just broken in the Shady City. Birds were trying to sing their song above the noise of morning deliveries to the few shops in the SHANTIES that were still open.
“Good morning!” Cheered Gemma, a habitual morning person, from behind the bar of the KNOCK KNOCK CLUB as the owner, TAWNY, sauntered in from the apartment above where she lived.
Tawny winced. She had a monster headache brewing and even the dim lighting of the club was proving irritable.
“Honey?” She said softly. The bar maid looked up. Tawny put her finger to her lips. Gemma giggled and skipped to the back of the bar to start brewing coffee. It wasn’t very often the Baroness of the club was found to be low energy but a killer hang over was taking hold. Tawny sat at the bar and laid a mug on top. On the mug was the crest of the HATHFIELD BAY football team, based on the islands she came from. On the back read BARONESS 1, the nickname she had been given in the area.
Gemma brought the coffee pot over with a fresh brew. The smell of the coffee already had a brightening effect. She lifted the mug and started inspecting the chips in the ceramic and the coffee stains.
“I think your mug has seen better days,” she commented. “You should throw it out and use one of the cool new ones.”
Tawny pouted with good humour. “This is my favourite one. I’m not throwing it away.”
Gemma shrugged and filled it. Tawny lifted it appreciatively to her lips and and sipped the first caffeine hit of the day hoping for a kick start.
She would never part with the mug in question. It had been a birthday gift from her niece TABITHA and as such the sentimental value couldn’t be measured.

A PLACE LIKE HOME

Tabitha had been watching her excitedly as she opened the box. Her smile wide, the gap between her front teeth making her seem younger, innocent in her excitement.
Tawny pulled out the mug and gave a giddy laugh when she saw the pale blue of her home town team. The reminder of the islands made her smile widen.
“Thanks TROUBLE,” she beamed, a nickname she had always used for her niece.
Tabitha dropped herself on the sofa beside her aunt and lifted her knees to her chest. “Look at the back,” she urged.
Tawny turned the mug round and when she read her nickname and the number she gave another hearty laugh. She reached an arm around Tabitha and pulled her close in a hug. She kissed her head. “I love it.”
“So what age does that make you?” Asked the younger.
Tawny raised her eyebrows. “The ripe age of twenty one,” she stated.
Tabitha chortled. “If you keep turning twenty one, you’re going to be younger than me.”
They both laughed. It was a simple moment in life but it is those simple moments that affect us the most. Sure the mug was old, worn and chipped but to rid of it would be to forget those laughs and giggles ever happened. It would be to forget Tabitha was an innocent girl once just looking to please her aunt. So happy she had found a simple little gift that would make her smile.
“You’re the best aunty in the world,” stated the girl as she cuddled into Tawny’s curvy frame.
Tawny couldn’t have been prouder. “Thanks Trouble. I try my best.”
Gemma dropping letters on the bar stirred the Baroness from her thoughts.

BROKER, BOSS AND BARONESS
“Some mail this morning,” she stated in commentary.
An envelope with the LAWMAKERS seal caught her attention first. She pushed off the bar stool and clutched the coffee in one hand and the letter in the other. The rest of the mail could wait.
“I’ll take this in the office. Will you be okay in here?” She asked her bar maid.
“I’m good,” Gemma assured.
“Just shout me on down if you need me,” Tawny instructed but she had already become distracted by the letter.
Gemma watched her for a few moments. The normally bright, cheery air had faded and it wasn’t the hangover.
“Are you okay?”
Tawny sighed and looked up from the letter. She smiled with her usual warmth. “Peaches and cream, honey,” she stated.
Gemma heard the door of the office click closed. Trouble was brewing.

LAWMAKERS

Trouble is certainly brewing at the KNOCK KNOCK CLUB with reporter SAM knocking on the door looking for answers to the disappearance of the CITY MAYOR.

Fullerton FC: We Are Filton

Stadium: Fullerton Park

Sponsors: BECKINGRIDGE FINANCIAL FIRM

The second UNIVERSITY team in the city, Fullerton claim supremacy over their rivals at KINGSGATE by their Sport Science program whose research has benefited larger teams such as COLDFORD CITY and ATHLETIC. Graduates of the sports science course include BUDDY OWEN, although some would argue this was not without his father, THE CAPPY’s, money and influence. The backing of his brother’s at KAPPA SO also helped.

As a football team Fullerton are quite consistent. They rarely manage to quash the big two but they keep their heads high and are a constant feature on the stages of the bigger competitions. The bridge on their badge is representative of the FULLERTON BRIDGE which connects the rich town of FILTON in the north to the rest of the city.

Our most notable supporter of Fullerton is the BOSS LADY herself. She may be Queen of the Shanties but her roots in Filton are never forgotten.

Chasing the Story

They chased stories from small time crooks to large scale corruption.

The people of the city could rely on their integrity and could rest assured they were being delivered the truth but that’s when it happened. A second financial crisis struck much worse than the first.

Whilst those in high places played a dangerous game of finger pointing and trying to cover their own asses those on the ground became fodder. Job cuts, budget cuts, the city turned against each other in desperation. The north prospered more and the south suffered.

Then there came stories about the mayor. Rumours of sleaze, embezzlement and shady deals at city hall became rife but the newspapers fell silent. The COLDFORD DAILY wouldn’t print any article that attacked the mayor. The hungry reporters fighting each other for scraps of story could think of their own families the had to feel and homes they had to keep.

The mayor went missing.

At the request of the mayor’s wife the Coldford Daily was the only news let allowed to search deeper into what happened. SAM CRUSOW was given the story. That story led him to the Knock Knock Club and the events that unfolded changed his life forever.

CONFESSIONS

From the tip of the Shanties to the top of the north COLDFORD DAILY has the news.

The largest newspaper in the area they have been first to inform the people of some of the most significant events the Shady City has ever seen such as the kidnapping of Billionaire Ernest BECKINGRIDGE’s son, George. They also were first in line to report on CONFESSIONS killer Tracey Campbell after she murdered half of her anatomy class. If it happens within the Coldford City district you will read it first at Coldford Daily.

Boasting some of the best journalists such as SAM CRUSOW (winner of the prestigious PENN prize for literature) and MADELINE LOWER who despite facing discrimination in the Daily offices because of gender has proven time and time again her worth as an investigative journalist.

Owned by the OWEN family it can be said that although they are first to bring news to the people they are also in control of what the people are allowed to hear. This is perfect when you want to hide skeletons back in the closet and the Owens have many of those.

The mayor is missing and Sam is covering the story. Volume 1 is free to read on Vivika Widow Online or download for Kindle by clicking HERE.
